

George Stanko, age 83, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on September 28, 1927, to the late John and Anna Stanko, and was a graduate of Steubenville High School. George was a proud veteran of the US Navy, having served in WWII and in the Korean Conflict. After his service, he graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. George worked for Ohio Bell, retiring after 31 years. He was a founding member of St. Joan of Arc Church, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Telephone Pioneers Club, and Destroyer Escort Historical Society. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan, and he enjoyed playing golf. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 nephew. George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores Ann “Pal” Stanko; children, Peggy Stanko, Nancy (Dale) Mullen, and Teresa (Joe) Macioce; grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) Shafer, Jonathan Mullen, and Danny and Samantha Macioce; and great grandson, Nicholas Shafer. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joan of Arc Church, 10700 Liberty Road South, Powell. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
