

George Van Lent, 85, of Columbus, passed away on February 19, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. He was born on May 1, 1934 in Pasadena, CA. to the late George and Kathryn (Toevs) Van Lent In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geraldine Van Lent; and sister, Beverly McLauchlan.
George achieved the rank of SP-4 and was a proud veteran of the United States Army. George served as an Electronic Technician Specialist during 1951-1953. He received the National Defense Service Medal, as well as Solider of the Month during his service. While stationed in Georgia, he met the love of his life Geri, and they married and spent 59 happy years together before her passing in 2013. Following his career in the military he attended Georgia State University where he received his bachelor's degree in business administration.
George began his career with ATandT Long Lines in 1955 and held a variety of positions in Network Operations, National Markets and General Business Markets in his 34 years of service. Once retiring from AT andT, George did some consulting work, and eventually began a career in Real Estate. In his free time, George enjoyed golfing, reading, gardening, and was a member of the Rotary and Kiwanis Club. George was known for being a true gentleman, and always remained a positive and welcoming person to all who knew and loved him.
George will be greatly missed by his children, George Van Lent III, Karen (John) Yark, and Susan (Stan) Moyer; grandchildren, Jay (Jayne) Yark, Jennifer (Matt) Beaudoin, Kim (AJ) Nelson, Mike Moyer, Meagan (Nick) Cunningham, and Shannon Moyer; great-grandchildren, Austin, Evelyn, and Luke Beaudoin, Blake and Avery Yark, and Emma and Isabelle Nelson.
A funeral celebrating George's life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Liberty Presbyterian Church, 7080 Olentangy River Road, Delaware OH, 43015. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street from 4:00-7:00 pm.
The family would like to thank the Kobacker House for their compassionate care during George's last days. We would also like to thank family and friends for the outpouring of support and care for our father.
