Gerald Donald Ridenour, Jerry to those that knew him most, a beacon of light in the lives of those who knew him, was called home to eternal rest on November 29, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. Born on August 1, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio, to the late George and Gertrude (Chesney) Ridenour. Gerald's union with his beloved wife, Joyce, on October 9, 1982, was a testament to the enduring power of love. Though Joyce preceded him in death together, they built a legacy of warmth and compassion that touched the hearts of everyone that knew them. Survived by children, Geof (Barb), Michele, Annette (Rob) and Evan Behrendt Jr., sister, Linda Fabbro, niece and nephew as well as their 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. For 40 years, Gerald worked for GM, Delphi, where his dedication and expertise were matched only by his passion for his alma mater, the Ohio State University, where he was a fervent Buckeyes fan, cheering on the Buckeyes through victories and defeats alike. He enjoyed bowling, darts and golf in his younger years where he was always a part of various leagues and organizations. While he was formally educated, he was also an autodidact. He wanted to learn about everything and anything. He was known for his remarkable cooking ability, his intricate knitting skills, and his love for woodworking. Gerald's faith was the bedrock of his existence, a steadfast guide that led him through life's trials and tribulations. He was a devoted member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served with humility and grace as a deacon and elder. His dedication to the church and his fellow congregants was a reflection of his deep spirituality, which permeated every aspect of his life. In addition to his religious affiliations, Gerald was also a member of the Grand Lodge #732 of Masons in Columbus. His commitment to the principles of brotherhood, charity, and truth was evident in every aspect of his life. As we gather to honor and remember Gerald's life, we are reminded of his gentle spirit and his unshakeable belief in the goodness of others. His calming presence was a safe haven to those in distress, and his patience was a gift to those seeking guidance. He had a unique ability to listen without judgment and speak with kindness and wisdom. His faith in God was not just something he talked about, it was something he lived every day, inspiring those around him to be better versions of themselves. The family is deeply appreciative of the care and compassion provided by Heart and Soul Hospice, especially Ieva and Karly, who walked alongside them during Gerald's final days. Their dedication and empathy were a comforting presence in a time of sorrow. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at the Advantage by Schoedinger – Hilltop Chapel, a place that will be filled with warm memories and shared stories of a life well-lived. The visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 4 PM to 7 PM at 3030 W Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43204. The funeral service will be a celebration of Gerald's life, taking place at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 222 Schoolhouse Lane, Columbus, Ohio 43228, the spiritual home he cherished so dearly, on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10 AM. Reverend Jonathan T. Carlisle will lead the service, offering comfort and solace through the power of faith. Following the service, Gerald will be laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio, a tranquil final resting place that mirrors the peacefulness of his soul. In the wake of his passing, let us hold onto the memories of Gerald's laughter, his wisdom, and his unwavering faith. Let us also remember to be kind to one another, to cherish our families, and to live our lives with the same integrity and grace that he embodied. Gerald may no longer be with us in body, but his spirit remains a guiding light for all who knew him, and his legacy will endure through the lives he touched and the hearts he left imprinted with his love. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a charitable donation in Gerald’s name to the charity that means the most to you, as a final tribute to his memory and legacy of unconditional love and giving.
