Gregory R. Dockus, age 57, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, of anti-synthetase syndrome, a rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease. He was born on May 7, 1968, to the late Richard Dockus and Dorlene Dockus, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humor, intelligence, and genuine friendship.
He is survived by his loving sister, Diane Mintz, and her husband, “the other Greg,” along with his cherished nephew Jordan, niece Richelle, and his beloved cat, Melo. His entire family meant the world to him. He stayed close to his cousins and extended family members throughout his life.
Greg lived a life marked by compassion, loyalty, and a deep love for both people and animals. Known for his quick wit and genuine interest in others, Greg made a lasting impact on everyone he met, with his iconic laugh and an uncanny ability to make those around him feel valued.
Greg was a dedicated volunteer with the Humane Society, where he had a special place in his heart for cats. That love was especially clear in his bond with his beloved cat, Melo. Their unique dynamic brought laughter to many, and his daily photos and videos of the two of them were a joy to friends and family.
Greg built an impressive career as a logistics leader beginning in 2002 with HA Logistics, later Mode Logistics, where he spent many years dedicated to the Build-A-Bear account. His communication skills and natural ability to bring people together made his coworkers feel more like family.
An avid sports fan, lover of music, delicious food, and travel, Greg connected easily with people across a wide range of interests. He was a gifted conversationalist and a great listener. He traveled the world to Pearl Jam concerts and recently took his niece and nephew on separate trips to Europe.
Greg had a smooth, warm, and unmistakable voice. Paired with a million-dollar smile and a youthful appearance and gregarious nature, Greg made an impression wherever he went. He was one of a kind, and his memory will live on in the many lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221.
