

Gregory L. Frakes, age 66, of Columbus, died at his home with his family by his side on Friday, October 4, 2019. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 13, 1953 the son of Richard E. and Gwendolyn B. (Williams) Frakes. Sr. Greg attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy during his childhood. He was a 1971 graduate of Cincinnati Elder High School, where he played football, wrestling and baseball. He then attended Cincinnati Technical College and had a tryout with the Cincinnati Reds before he sustained a knee injury. He retired in 2015 from DSCC following 35 years of service. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Janice; five sons, Gregory (Shawana Johnson) Tribble, Anthony R. (Amber) Roberts Jr., Matthew R. (Kassandra) Frakes, Joseph L. Frakes and Joshua K. Frakes; five beloved grandsons, Corey Johnson, Gregory Tribble Jr., Anthony Roberts III, Darius Roberts and Kingston R. Frakes; his mother, Gwendolyn Frakes; sisters, Sherri Bell Frakes and Bertina Frakes and brothers, Peter D. (Jacqueline) Frakes Sr and Kenneth (Holley) Frakes; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Preceded in death by his father; brothers, Richard E. Frakes Jr. and Johnathan T. Frakes and a niece Kianna S. (Rocco) Frakes-DiLeone. Veteran U.S. Marines serving as a sergeant and a part of their boxing, football and basketball teams. He also served with the 237th Calvary Regiment of the Ohio National Guard for several years. Upon moving to Columbus, Greg attended Christ the King Catholic Church. He was instrumental in the coaching of his sons and their friends in all their sports and motivated all those who were unmotivated. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds, Bengals and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Greg kept active in bowling leagues at Holiday Lanes; playing softball throughout the United States with DSCC teams, the Pressure Cookers and on a 50 plus league team; and volunteered with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank's during his retirement years.
