

Harold Edward Swingle, age 90 passed into eternal life on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 5, 1920 to the late Elmer Ellsworth and Emma Riegel Swingle in Jackson, Ohio, where he spent his boyhood years. He enlisted in the US Navy and served his country during World War II aboard the destroyer, USS Ringgold in the Pacific theatre. After returning from the war, he met the love of his life Doris Davis, who became his wife on February 11, 1950, for nearly 60 years. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2010. They were devoted and loving parents to three daughters, Vicki (Larry) Miller, Pamela Swingle and Patricia (Bill) Merryman. He treasured time spent with his six precious grandchildren, Geoff Miller, Nick (Amanda) Miller, Lyndsey, Amy, Jenny and Kara Merryman. He shared a special bond with nephew, Jerry (Nancy) Davis and family, and thought of him as a son. He loved God’s creatures, the outdoors and being with people. Harold retired from Lennox Industries after 35 years of service. A longtime member of Bethel United Methodist Church, he recently attended Genoa Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; brothers David Swingle and Hayden Swingle, and sister Alta Wykle. He is survived by his brother, Robert Swingle, dear sisters-in-law, Janice and Mildred Davis and numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, OH where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 2, 2011. Pastors Mike Pratt and Wayne Booth officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm following the funeral service at Fairmount Cemetery, 12 Fairmont St., Jackson, OH.
