Helen Evans

Helen Evans, age 101, died on December 28th, 2020. Preceded in death by her husband, and her three sisters; and survived by sons John and Gary and their families. Helen retired in 1975 as Assistant to the Dean, College of Medicine, The Ohio State University, was a life member of the OSU Alumni Associations, and member of the OSU Association of Faculty and Professional Women. She received her private pilot's license in 1945 and served as Assistant to the Director of the OSU School of Aviation from 1943-1952. Helen was active in the early days of aviation as former chairman of the All-Ohio Chapter of the 99s, member International Organization of Woman Pilots, and participant of the Powder Puff Derby. Helen was a long-time member of Riverside United Methodist Church in Upper Arlington, writing the church history for the period 1842-1992, and delegate to the West Ohio Conference at Lakeside. She also volunteered at the OSU James Cancer Hospital. Helen received her high school diploma from Grandview High School. In her spare time, she was an avid golfer, a long-term member of the OSU Golf Course, and former president of the OSU Women's Golf Association.
