

Helen Gallagher (nee Gale), age 94, passed away Friday, October 12th. Born December 25, 1923, second of 11 children raised on Bonham Ave by William and Marie Gale. Graduated from St. Joseph's Academy and the Bliss Business College before joining the Curtiss-Wright Corporation during World War II. Married Dudley "Ned" Gallagher, and together they raised their family of six children on Atwood Terrace. A devoted grandmother and great-grandmother with a remarkable ability to recall birthdays, anniversaries and family tree details. Devoted to the Virgin Mary, Helen prayed the rosary daily. A founding member of St. Matthias Catholic Church involved in the funeral ministry, a lector, and volunteer Eucharistic Minister at Riverside and St. Ann's hospitals. An original Northland Mall walker who for many years enjoyed walking with her friends Gloria and Miriam. A skilled bridge player, Helen was a regular at the Blendon Senior Center. A voracious reader averaging 100 books per year and avid Jeopardy fan! For all of these things and many more, we will cherish and fondly remember Helen.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ned; her daughter, Dr. Janice Gallagher; her parents, William and Marie Gale; three brothers, John, Bill (Dottie) and Paul; five sisters, Betty (George) Groomes, Therese (Tom) Savely, Joan Gale, Rita (Paul) Quinn, Sr. Catherine Gale; sisters-in-law, Molly (Ted) Campbell and Martha (George) Bell; brothers-in-law John Carroll and Carl LaCorte. Helen is survived by her children, Dennis of Houston, TX, Maryanne (John) Jackson, Jim (Kim), Sheila (Andy) Behrendt and Peggy (Michele), all of Columbus; grandchildren, Emily (Ryan ) Feaver, Christopher (Ryan) Jackson, Jakob and Joseph Behrendt and Grady and McKenna Gallagher; great-grandson, Bernard Feaver; son-in-law, Peter White and his family; two sisters, Jean Carroll and Pauline LaCorte; sister-in-law, Marynelle Gale; and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Monday, October 15th from 4:00-7:00pm at the Schoedinger Funeral Home at 6699 N. High Street, Worthington. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 16th at 10:00am at St. Matthias Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
