

Helen “Honey” Bartley Barnes, peacefully left this Earth with her family by her side, on Monday, May 13, 2013 under the care of Kobacker House. A published author, she wrote the book, The Old Couple and The Little Dog”. In her own words, she grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the first woman elected to The Fox Chapel Area School Board and was Vice President of the Allegheny County School Board. In Columbus, OH she assisted an Actuary and was a “Big Sister" for Children Services. Seldom deterred, she began playing Tournament Bridge after becoming legally blind from Macular Degeneration. She became an ACBL Life Master in 2011. She is survived by her husband Wallace R. Barnes; daughter Elizabeth Barnes Cohen (David); son Douglas Wittmer Barnes; grandchildren Sarah McKee Manning (Jeffrey), Crystal Cook, Melissa, Elizabeth and Andrew Barnes; great grandson Brenden Cook; loving companion Bella; many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son Charles “Chip” Calvin Barnes; parents Burnett Graham and Helen McKee Bartley; siblings Burnett G Bartley, Margaret Griffith, Suzanne Jackson, loving Chihuahua Chi Chi. Honey’s family will receive friends on Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1741 Zollinger Rd., Columbus 43221. In lieu of flowers, purchase a copy of “The Old Couple and The Little Dog”, and share the copy with a friend, in her honor.
