

Helen C. Rase, 95, of Circleville, passed away unexpectedly June 17, 2014 while staying at Genesis Care Center for rehab. She was born November 13, 1918 in Falcon, Kentucky, the daughter of John Wesley and Lucy (Collins) Caudill. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Charles Rase in 1996; son, Roger Lee Rase; infant granddaughter, Jennifer Stumbo; and sister, Mabel Sompres. She is survived by son, Gene Charles (Sally) Rase of Colorado; daughters, Karen Sue (Robert) Clark and Nancy (Lee King) Stumbo of Circleville; sister, Ruth (Frank) Barbella of New York; brother, Bill R. (Clara “Pauline”) Caudill of Circleville; sister-in-law, Irene Rase of Canal Winchester; grandchildren, Stephanie Lane, Rhonda (Rob) Doughty, Ann (Michael) Moebs, Fred Michael (Angela) Stumbo, Tamra (Paul) Reif, Tonya (Don) Capella, Kimberly Rase, Brad (Lisa) Rase, Jeff (Karmen) Rase and Krista (Steve) Poling and Roger’s children, Lana, Lisa, Yvonne, Roger and Sabrina; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Helen graduated from Wheelersburg High School in 1936 and attended Portsmouth Interstate Business College. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Helen was a kind woman who was very forgiving, never holding a grudge. Her favorite saying was, “Stay calm, cool and collected.” She and husband Walter are probably best remembered for their farm on Rt. 56 east of Circleville where folks could buy eggs for 35 cents a dozen out of a vending machine. They resided there from 1947-1975. Helen enjoyed raising her chickens, cooking, sewing and vegetable gardening. She and Walter traveled the continental United States in their truck camper even to the state of Alaska. They visited all 50 states, with Hawaii being Helen’s favorite.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 23, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 E. Mound St., Circleville with The Rev. Dr. Gerhard Kraus officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Circle of Caring, 1180 N. Court St., Circleville, OH 43113 or to Trinity Lutheran Church,
