Herbert Moore Jr., 95, of Delaware, passed away on May 8, 2020. He was born on February 25, 1925 in Ashland Kentucky, to the late Herbert and Nellie (Walker) Moore Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Moore; and grandchild, Erin Cavener.
Herbert married the love of his life Roberta on August 23, 1951 in Columbus Ohio. Together they lived a loving and happy life until her passing in 2007. Herbert worked for BandO Railroad for over 15 years. Herbert loved working for the railroads and would tell many stories.
After the railroad yard closed he had to provide for his family, so he went to the local unemployment office looking for work. The gentleman told him they have a job for him, but you will not want to work there as it is in the steel mill and its dirty and dangerous work. Herbert's response was "I have a family to feed" and he worked there for over 20 years. This showed the type of person that Herbert was.
Herbert was a founding member of the North Free Will Baptist Church. His faith and his family were his true passions. He set an example to his family on how to care for his family and friends while leading a faithful life. Herbert had a natural singing voice and loved singing church hymns.
He was an avid sports fan. He loved The Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball. He was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Reds. Herbert and his wife loved to visit the Smokey Mountains and visiting his family that lived in Kentucky. He also had a love for White Castle and would eat White Castle hamburgers well into his 90s.
