

Hilda M. Logan Belcher was born April 8, 1943 in Chatham, Pittsylvania County, Virginia to Cecil and Irene Hubbard Logan (Stewart). She departed this life on September 26, 2013 at Grant Medical Center. Hilda was lovingly reared in Virginia by her maternal grandmother and uncle until the age of 12 when Columbus OH became her permanent home. She attended East High School, and was married to the late Ernest G. Belcher, Jr.
Hilda is also preceded in death by her parents; beloved sons, John A. Belcher and David R. Belcher; maternal grandparents, Robert and Katie Hubbard; paternal grandparents, Alvin & Veanus Logan; brothers, Thomas Logan and Michael Alston; uncle, Moses Hubbard; aunt, Leslie Dalton; nephew, Antonio Alston; and best friend, Dorothy Rebecca Miller.
Hilda was baptized in the Christian faith, and raised in the old country ways of hard work, love for family, love for community, and true love for the Lord. She was exceptionally supportive, disciplined, resilient, dedicated and creative throughout her life, enjoying cooking, D-I-Y projects, gardening, bowling, decorating, traveling, bird watching, playing bingo and entertaining family and friends. She served many years as a selfless member of Alpha Chapter #1, Order of Eastern Star, F. & A. A. Y. M. on Mt. Vernon Avenue in Columbus.
Over the years, Hilda was employed primarily in manufacturing at Federal Glass, Adria Laboratories, White Castle Steel, and finally at Armstrong World Industries until injury forced her retirement.
Hilda epitomizes a well-lived life serving others and she will remain a loving, shining example for her descendants to continue, together always as family.
Left to cherish her memory are devoted daughters, Hilda Darleen Belcher, Lori L. Belcher and Yolanda R. Brown; step-father, James E. Stewart Sr.; companion, Allen L. Jones and his mother Frances Hamm; special daughter, Ayanna (Jheron) Garrett; daughter-in-law, Shana Belcher, all of Columbus OH; step-mother, Phyllis Logan of New Castle, DE; sisters, Augusta Ann Smith of Ridgeland, SC, Gloria White of Chester, PA, and Cecilia Brasier of New Castle, DE; grandchildren, Clifford (November) Belcher, Lakesaia Harvey, LaTasha (Larry) Layne, Maria (Marco) Glover, Miranda (Gary) Reese and Deja Belcher, all of Columbus; 14 great-grandchildren; dear cousin, Shirley Robinson of Cleveland, OH; also Robert Dalton Jr. of Columbus; beloved aunts, Jennie (David) Witcher and Irene Thompson of Chatham, VA, also Frances Williams of CT ; uncle John Logan of Jarratt, VA; sisters-in-law Louise Logan of Richmond, VA, Shirley Casanova of Jackson, MS, Marie Belcher of Durham, NC, and Bernice Belcher of Columbus; special friends, Virginia Howard, Robert & Jeanette Brown, The Brown Family, The Jones Family, Ruth & Bobby Williams, Freddie Toone, Mac Carter Jr., The F. & A. A. Y. M. Family, as well as her “kids” Darrell Weaver, Lisa Hargrow, James T. Alexander, Marvin & Keith Jones, Sherry Miller-Johnson, Terry Miller, Julie Mong, Robin Byrd, Crystal & Kennedy Smith. Many caring nieces, nephews and cousins, doting neighbors Bill & Carol Morton and Wendy Hunter, along with many great friends, also survive.
