

He grew up in Newark and started his career at Big Bear Stores as a bag boy at the age of 17. In 1945, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps serving overseas during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Big Bear Stores and continued his career. Jack held many management positions and retired after 47 years as Advertising Director.
He was a compassionate man with a big heart who possessed a strong Methodist faith. Jack was the most incredible, supportive father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be remembered for how much he loved his family. He had a charismatic personality and truly loved people.
Jack's family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at the Emeritus at Chestnut Hill and Kindred Hospice especially Emily Brown, Fatou Kinteh and Dennis Barnhart.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Janice Howes Russell; second wife of 6 years, Mary Alice Barrett Litts Russell; granddaughter, Lisa Beth Landes; great grandson, Tristan Jack Felkner; and siblings, Edward Leroy Russell, Wayne Russell and Patricia Louise Rittenhouse. Jack is survived by his loving children, Linda Russell Preskar, Kathy Russell Landes (Rick Ryan) and Bruce K. Russell (Lisa Kees); grandchildren, Brian (Heather) Felkner, Michael Landes, Christopher (Nicole) Russell and Sara Russell; great grandson, Brayden Felkner; and 3 step-children, Carl R. (Chris) Litts, Timothy L. (Ann) Litts and Marcia L. (Larry) Parr.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 10, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. (at Beecher Rd.), Gahanna, OH, where the funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Newark Memorial Gardens.
