

Jack F. Silcott, 71, of Columbus, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, November 19, 2010, after battling stage four cancer for 15 months. Jack was born March 18, 1939, in Nelsonville, Ohio, to Fern ‘Dobby’ and Lillian May Silcott.
He was a 1957 graduate of South High School where he was vice president of his class, co-captain of the football team and held the shot-put record for about 20 years. Jack graduated from Franklin University with an associate’s degree in accounting and a BSBA in Industrial Management. He went on to receive his MBA from the University of Dayton.
Jack is a former resident of Columbus; Pickerington, Ohio; London, Ohio; Wheeling, West Virginia, and Mansfield, Ohio.
He is the former owner of Stuhldreher Floral Company in Mansfield Ohio. In addition, he is the retired president and CEO of Hancock Manufacturing (in Ohio), Scotland Manufacturing (in North Carolina) and McDowell Manufacturing (in Pennsylvania). He served as the Vice President of Manufacturing of Metal Forge Company and Plant Manager of Holophane Company (Columbus and Springfield plants). He was also a manufacturing engineer at American Standard in Columbus.
His past memberships include the Ontario, Ohio, Rotary where he was the secretary; the Westbrook Country Club; the London (Ohio) Country Club where he served as president in 1987; the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Society of Die Cast Engineers and the National Management Association. He received the award of Excellence from Hancock Manufacturing in 1993. Jack is a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Bexley. He was an avid Buckeye fan and was involved coaching youth football & baseball teams in Pickerington and London. Jack was very patriotic and believed in the US Constitution and the moral values it instills.
Jack is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 53 years, Norma (Rosenauer); his children of whom he was incredibly proud, Shawn (Cheryl) of Blacklick; Shellie (Michael) O’Toole of Hilliard; and Wendi (Graeme) MacKay, of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. His greatest joys in life were his grandchildren: Connor and Claire O’Toole; Gillian and Jacqueline (Jackie) MacKay; and Rylan (Rylie) Silcott. He is also survived by his brother Jim (Donna) of Fairborn, Ohio; sister Ann Chapman, and sisters-in-law Lea Spang of Columbus, Audrey Silcott of Florida, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death his parents Fern and Lillian; brother Paul Silcott; and infant granddaughter, Katherine Reese MacKay.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Zangmeister and the entire healthcare team at the Mark H. Zangmeister Center who took outstanding care of Jack and allowed us to have more time with him. We’d also like to thank the pastoral team at Christ Lutheran Church for their ongoing spiritual guidance during this sad time.
Visitation will be at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna on Tuesday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm, and on Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church, 2314 E. Main St., Bexley, OH., from 10:00am to 11:00am prior to the service which will start at 11:00am, Officiated by Pastor Tim Iseringhausen. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park As a former florist, Jack loved flowers and we encourage you to remember him with flowers. Donations to the Zangmeister Center, CaringBridge.org and the Health Well Foundation are also welcome.
