He grew up on a farm, milking cattle and planting and harvesting the fields, so hard work was a part of his DNA. At the age of 11 Jim had an encounter with Jesus Christ. It was then that he was given the gift of eternal life. That experience marked the remainder of his life and gave him the strength to either be “up or getting up” until he took his final “up” on July 18, 2020.
Jim met Janice Peters, the love of his life, and then married her 8 months later on March 14, 1953. Shortly after that Jim was drafted into the United States Army where he served in Germany. He often told the story of how God favored him and gave him the opportunity to hold Bible Studies, which soon grew to fill the largest tent to capacity. The chaplain even began to attend his Bible Studies. Teaching the scriptures was common to Jim. He started teaching Sunday School at the age of 14 and taught until he was 82.
Though only having a High School Education, Jim was a master salesman. He could sell an ice-cube to an Eskimo. He was the leading salesperson many years running for Meadow Gold Dairy, Columbia Securities, and A.D.T.
Jim and Janice were not physically able to have children, so they adopted while they were in Germany. Less than two years after the adoption God miraculously healed Janice’s body which gave them the ability to have their own children.
Surviving Jim is his wife of 67 years, Janice (Peters) Seymour of Gahanna, Ohio, Karen (Rick) Suvak of Galena, Ohio, Kevin (Marsha) Seymour of Lewis Center, Ohio, Kerry Seymour of Pataskala, Ohio, and Kyle Seymour of Westerville Ohio and the joy of his heart, his 13 grandchildren; Dianne (Suvak) Walls, Deborah (Suvak) Cooper, Jared Suvak, Jameson Seymour, Joshua Seymour, Jonathan Seymour, Jelissa Seymour, Josiah Seymour, Jeremy Seymour, Kaitlyn (Seymour) Scherker, Tanner Seymour, Trevor Seymour, and Torey Seymour. If the grandchildren were the joy of Jim’s heart, the sparkle in his eye was the 8 great grandchildren.
Jim is also survived by his brother Don (Betty) Seymour, Bonnie Strickland, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Daisy Seymour, two sisters, Donna Jean Jordan and Frieda Wickline, and his daughter-in-law, Mindy Seymour.
Jim always said that he wanted the preaching ministry of his son Kevin to be heard around the world. Therefore, his family has asked that in lieu of flowers would you consider giving to the “Video Ministry of Hope Community Church of the Nazarene”, 3570 Coonpath Rd NW, Carroll, OH 43112 so that God’s Word will continue to be aired each week via the internet.
Family will welcome friends from 10am- 1pm Friday, July 24, 2020 at Grace Life Church of the Nazarene, 6000 Johnstown Rd., New Albany, OH 43054 where a service will begin at 1pm; Pastor Kevin Seymour officiating; interment to follow at Mifflin Cemetery. Masks are respectfully requested.
