

James P. Newcomb, age 66, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, November 14, 2012. He was born December 18, 1945 in Fort Scott, Kansas to the late Raymond and Melinda (Cheney) Newcomb. Jim was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Automotive Technology from the University of Pittsburg-Kansas, and retired from COTA, where he worked as a shop supervisor. Jim was a faithful member of Broadman Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. He was a sailor at heart, and loved the water, especially when he had a fishing pole in his hands. He enjoyed reading, going to flea markets, cooking/baking and could literally fix anything that needed fixed around the house. Above all, he loved God, his family and being a grandpa. Jim was preceded in death by his son, John R. Newcomb in 2011. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Linda (Stallings) Newcomb; daughter, Melanie (John) Garko; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Newcomb; beloved grandchildren, Megan, Allison, Andrew, Katie, Mackenzie, Jaymes, Benjamin and Emma; sister, Linda Newcomb; sister-in-law, Barbara Stallings; niece and nephew, Kim and Harvey; other extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 7:30pm Friday, November 16, 2012 at Schoedinger Grove City Chapel, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123 where family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30pm; Pastor Rob Blair, officiating.
