James (Jim) A. Weber Sr., age 88, died peacefully Friday at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor surrounded by his wife of 63 years and many of his 8 children and their spouses. Mr. Weber was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Ruth Weber of St. Gabriel's parish in St. Louis Missouri. He is survived by wife, Charlotte, eight children: Lynn (Andrew (deceased), Mark (Janet), Michael (Molly), Daniel (Jennifer), James A. II (Kathy), Thomas, Stephen (Glenna) and Christopher (Theresa). He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Jim is a Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Jim was born in St. Louis Missouri and was the only son of Alfred and Ruth Weber. Jim attended St. Louis Cleveland High School and graduated from St. Louis University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949. After graduation Jim held several positions in advertising and marketing in the fashion industry. After achieving the position of Senior Art Director with Wohl Shoe Company, Jim was offered a marketing Vice President role with the newly formed Cincinnati Shoe Company. In July 1969 Jim moved his wife and eight children to Ohio. Jim held several marketing leadership roles throughout the 70s and 80s, starting his own firm, James Marketing Services in 1976. Jim's creativity and experience attracted clients in sporting goods, retail and packaging industries. In 1984 Jim joined his son's then startup mulch company, Ohio Mulch, as head of Marketing and Sales. Jim was instrumental in the company's expansion in both retail and wholesale sales. His success can be directly attributed to his love of building business relationships. Jim took pride in landing and nurturing many of the company's lumber and garden center customers. He was especially proud of his first major win, Sutherlands Lumber. Jim "retired" from Ohio Mulch in 2008, but continued to participate in packaging design projects until age 86. Jim and Charlotte were married June 21, 1952. Although Jim grew up as an only child, he enjoyed the noise and commotion created in his home by his eight children and twenty-one grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially at birthdays and Christmas. Jim enjoyed vacationing with his children and their families in the national parks and at the Lake of the Ozarks. Jim enjoyed fishing and joined his older sons and nephews on fishing expeditions in Canada. Jim enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign where he survived a torpedo attack on his ship that took the lives of many of his fellow sailors. During Korea he served aboard the Naval Destroyer U.S.S Colahan. Jim served in the rank of Seaman First Class until his honorable discharge in1952. Jim was a long-time parishioner and past parish council president of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 11am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church 4383 E. Broad St. Whitehall, Ohio 43213. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Saint Louis University Stroke Research - Interventional Neurology Fund.
