

James Russell (Jim) Pitzer, age 63, passed away September 20, 2010. Born August 25, 1947, Jim was a graduate of Mifflin High School class of 1965 and The Ohio State University class of 1973. He served his country with honor aboard the USS Leary, 1968-1971 during the Vietnam campaign and was awarded the service medal. Jim was employed at American Shoe Corp and Toledo Scale in Columbus, OH. He retired from Reliance Electric/Rockwell Automation in Cleveland, OH. Jim was a member of the Combat Vets Motorcyclists Association (CVMA), Harley Owners Group (HOG), Patriot Guard Riders, and Columbus Ski Club. Jim was also a life member of the VFW and Amvets. He served as Commander of Amvets Post 109, Mentor on the Lake, OH and 1st Vice Commander of Amvets Post 89, Columbus, OH. Jim was a true patriot of The United States of America. His love of motorcycles and his fellow riders was complemented by his willingness to help his fellow man. He was widely known and respected throughout the central Ohio area. Preceded in death by his parents John William. and Mary Eloise Pitzer. Survived by son James Joseph (Petra), granddaughter Evangeline Rose and brother Steven. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Jim’s life will be held Saturday from 12-3 and 5-8 PM at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. (1/2 mile south of I-270).
