Jane Walsh, 81, died of invasive metastatic peritoneal and breast cancer at the Kobacker house on December 26, 2025. She is predeceased by her parents Jack and Belva Chilcote (Lancaster, Ohio) and four beloved feline companions, Onion, Apple, Tess, and Bolt. She is survived by her loving and supportive husband, W. Bruce Walsh, special cousin-in-law Betty Chilcote, Chilcote and Jackson cousins, and dear friends in Columbus and throughout the country. After earning two degrees at The Ohio State University and completing a career at Ohio Bell/AT&T, Jane had opportunities to travel extensively nationally and internationally; garden, including becoming a Master Gardener; work for progressive Democrats; and support environmental and cultural organizations. The project closest to her heart was her Fairfield County property, which has been preserved through a conservation easement with Appalachia Ohio Alliance. After her breast cancer diagnosis in March 2016, she continued to urge women not settle for the phrase "Dense Breasts" after an exam or mammography, but to insist on more evaluation. With gratitude to Dr. Natalie Jones and Dr. Nseobong Ntukidem, Jane lived 10 years after the breast cancer diagnosis. Invasive metastatic peritoneal cancer was diagnosed in 2023 and concurrently, the breast cancer recurred. The family appreciates Dr. Calo's caring treatment of Jane's peritoneal cancer. At Jane's request, there is no visitation or service. If desired, contributions may be directed to her favorite organizations, including the Natural Resources Defense Council (40 West 20th Street, New York, NY 10011), Cat Welfare (741 Wetmore Road, Columbus, OH 43214), and Appalachia Ohio Alliance (PO Box 1151, Logan, OH 43138-4151). Please visit Advantage by Schoedinger Hilltop to send condolences to the family.
