

Janet Lynn (Parker) Bieber, age 71, of Upper Arlington, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 25, 1942 on Catawaba Island, Ohio, the daughter of the late Emil L. and Margaret L. (Miller) Parker. She graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1960 and received her BS in Education from The Ohio State University in 1964. Janet began her teaching career in the Southwestern School District and then taught in the newly-launched Head Start program in Abilene, TX, after which she taught elementary students in Columbus Public Schools. She authored or co-authored twenty-six historical and contemporary romance novels, embracing new computer word processing technology and traveling the country signing books and promoting her craft.
She will be dearly missed as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. James C. Bieber (her “Mr. Nice Guy”) as well as her children, Bradley J. Bieber, SPC, U.S. Army, Lynne A. Bieber, Westerville, OH and Lorraine E. (David) Robinson, Worthington, OH; her beloved grandchildren Lucia, Tulia, Beatrix and William; brothers David M. (Nancy) Parker, Schenectady, NY and Gary L. Parker, Chester, VA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends, including her faithful canine companion, Pepsi.
Janet was a member of First Community Church, and active in many community and professional organizations including: past president of the Ohio Optometric Association Auxiliary, past treasurer of the Four Seasons Garden Club, member of the Romance Writers of America, and Life Member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association.
Janet was very active in her children’s schools and activities, including serving as a Girl Scout leader and Service Unit director, Cub Scout den mother, UAHS Band Boosters and Drill Team.
She was a proud patriot and enjoyed knitting for The Ships Project’s troops as well as for her family. She enjoyed reading (especially history), music, and above all else loved and adored her grandchildren. She was a passionate Buckeyes fan, as exemplified by the time she ran down the neighborhood street, yelling and waving a large OSU flag after a victory over “that team up north.”
A Celebration of Life service will be held 7:00 pm Saturday, October 4, 2014 at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, where friends may call from 5-7 pm Saturday in Brownlee Hall. Private inurnment at a later date at Union Cemetery in Columbus. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Janet’s memory to support funding for melanoma research may be made to
