

Jay Smith, 93, passed in his sleep early Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the Genesis Nursing Home in Circleville, OH where he resided since July, 2014. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Daisy Ruth McElhenny Smith of years in August of 2014. His two sons, Donald Jay Smith of Williamsport, OH and Willard Dexter Smith of Marion, OH remain along with half-brother, Bill Tallett of Fallston, MD and half-sister Bonnie Lohse of Clinton, IA.
Mr. Smith was born and raised in Lyons, Iowa where he graduate from Lyons High School. After graduation he entered the military as a paratrooper. He met his future wife, Daisy, while in the service and later married on December 8, 1941. During his early years, Mr. Smith worked in various jobs in Florida, Ohio, and in Iowa. After settling down in Clinton, IA he was employed at DuPont's in Clinton, IA and later enjoyed working at the Clinton Garment Factory as a sew machine mechanic for many years. While employed at DuPont's he tried his hand at five years of farming after which he relocated his family to city life in Clinton where they lived until both he and Daisy semi-retired to Chattahoochee, FL to run their own fabric and sewing business. Later they would relocate to Williamsport, OH where they lived happily for over 25 years with their son Donald.
Mr. Smith was a true artist at heart and he drew and painted several portraits cherish by his sons. He was a passionate animal lover and typically had a dog in his lap while he enjoyed his favorite television shows. He enjoyed traveling and playing a round of golf whenever he could find a willing partner. Mr. Smith was a gentle soul who was loved greatly by family and friends. No funeral services will be held for Mr. Smith. Donations may be made to your favorite charity.
