

Jean Marie Mooney, 74, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. She was born April 13, 1947, in Nashville, Tennessee to the late William Clement and Nora Vourie (Davis) Rohling. Jean grew up in a large, close-knit, devoutly Catholic family, and was the first-born of eight children. She was a 1965 graduate of Cathedral High School in Nashville, Tennessee, 1969 graduate of George Peabody College for Teachers (Vanderbilt University), and earned her Master of Education in 2004 from Ashland University with a 4.0 grade point average. She exhibited a love for learning and was an enthusiastic teacher, devoted to ensuring her students' success. She received numerous teaching awards during her career, acknowledging her passion and dedication to teaching. Jean retired from Columbus City Schools with over 20 years of service. Her wisdom and kindness will be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Her life-long love of gardening began as a child, when she started collecting flower seeds and planting them. She had a competitive spirit and enjoyed playing cards and games, especially Scrabble and Yahtzee. She also loved history, enjoyed watching classic films and romances, and cheering on her Ohio State Buckeyes. Her light-hearted fun nature brought laughter into her home.
She adored West Highland White Terriers and owned an American Champion show dog, Major's Uptown Girl. She loved spending time at the beach, listening to the waves, and building sand castles.
She was an excellent cook and prepared elaborate meals for her family that made every holiday special. She baked delicious confections from scratch, especially her lemon meringue pie and coconut cake, which were family favorites.
Her family was very important to her and she cherished the time that they spent together, especially the time that she had with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ryan Christopher Mooney; granddaughter, Katherine Rose Mooney Thelin; and grandson, Caleb Nathaniel Johnson; and brothers, Joseph William Rohling and Patrick Hugh Rohling, Sr. Jean is survived by her daughters, Shannon Jennifer (Robert Thomas) Stephens and Tara Jeannine (Joseph Wylie Thelin) Mooney; grandsons, Blaine Morgan Eves, Braden Wakefield Eves, and Tristian Zachary Johnson; granddaughters, Mia Grace Thelin and Margaret Elizabeth Thelin; siblings, Linda Catherine (Al) Valiquette, Elizabeth Ann (Robert) Burton, Lawrence Anthony Rohling, Grace Ann Rohling, and Michael Francis (Karen) Rohling; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2021 at SCHOEDINGER EAST, 5360 East Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43232 with Prayer Service starting at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, 5225 Refugee Rd., Columbus, OH 43232; Fr.
