

Jean Rivera passed away peacefully on July 24, 2013 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born July 2, 1935 in Staten Island, NY to the late Pasquale and Michelina (Maglione) Picchine; also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Mauro Rivera and granddaughter, Zoe Rivera. Jean and Mauro began their lives together in New York and later moved to Honduras. While there, she taught first grade at the Mayan School as well as English as a second language. Eventually they settled in Columbus, Ohio, where she worked for many years as a dietary aide at Mann Nursing Home and Edgewood Manor. Jean was also costume designer for the Mayan School and Westerville South High School theatre departments. Jean loved traveling with Mauro, cooking and gardening. She welcomed her children’s friends into her home as if they were her own. She is survived by her children, Jean M. “Gigi” Trochanowski (Michael), Sharon K. Rivera (Shawn Hunter) and Mauro R. Rivera Jr.; grandchildren Derek, Michaila, Mia, Thomas, Elena and Kyra; sisters, Grace Pacente, Dorothy Gardella and Anne Farganis; sisters-in-law, Martha Calamari and Rose Picchini; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Family will receive friends 5-8pm Friday, July 26, 2013 at Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, OH 43229; Funeral Service 10am Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Karl Rd.
