Dr. Jesús José Castruita, Jr., 78, went home to Our Lord on January 30, 2026. He was surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico on September 13, 1947, Dr. Castruita's being was rooted in his faith, his family, and his love of education. He proudly served in the United States Navy and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. After obtaining his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Minnesota Medical school, he interned at the Naval Regional Medical Center and went on to complete residencies in both surgery and anesthesiology. Not yet finished, he obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver College of Law before going on to complete a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Castruita was a devout Catholic and a student of life. He loved phone calls with his brother about anything and everything. He was a connoisseur of bad jokes and all foods. His work ethic was unmatched. He vowed never to retire; and didn't. He was uniquely stubborn. Above all, he was fiercely proud of his children, and he put his love for them before himself. Always.
Dr. Castruita will be greatly missed by his brother, Alberto Castruita, and his legacy is carried by his children Sean-Marc Castruita, Renee (Matt) McCoy, Jesús José (Lani) Castruita, III, Simone Castruita, Ian Castruita, and Chenee Castruita; his grandchildren Aloysia Castruita, Chayton Castruita, Madeleine Castruita, Charlton McCoy, Katrina McCoy, Keli Castruita, Krystiana (Chase) Hindman; and his first great grandson, Clemson Hindman. He is greeted in Heaven by his wife, Carole Castruita, his parents José and Guadalupe Castruita, and his siblings Oscar Castruita, Jesús Simon Castruita, José Francisco Castruita, and Esperanza Castruita.
A service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 2PM at Schoedinger Northwest, 1740 Zollinger Rd, Columbus, OH 43221, with a light reception to follow until 5PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory.
