

Joan Farley, 83, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at Sunrise of Gahanna, Ohio. Joan was born August 14, 1931 in Carroll, Ohio to Harry and Ethel Wilkins. Joan grew up on a farm outside of Carroll, Ohio and became a high school cheerleader. After graduating from Carroll High School, she married her high school sweetheart, John Farley on October 15, 1949. They relocated to Columbus, Ohio where they made their home together until John's passing in 2007. Joan continued to live in North Columbus (Forest Park) until ill health forced her relocation in 2013. Joan worked for several years for the State of Ohio until resigning to become a full time mother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and raising three children in the 1960's. She became an avid bowler and an accomplished Euchre player. A longtime member of Linden Lutheran Church, Joan worked in the church office as recently as two years ago. Later in her life, Joan enjoyed her morning coffee, warm winters in Sarasota, Florida, spending time with her family and friends, walking, gardening, and caring for her husband John. Joan was loved by her family and many friends in Columbus and Sarasota. She will be deeply missed. Survived by her children, Glen (Teresa) Farley, Kathryn (Farley) Markin, and Janet (Farley) Bachman; six grandchildren, Michael (Kristin) and Kristen Farley, Beth (Bill Schramm) Markin and Jason (Angela) Markin, Danielle (Guy) Julian, and Staci Bachman (fiancée, Richard Maynard); three great grandchildren; sister, Mary (Kenneth) Gilmer of Baltimore, Ohio; sister in-law, Ruth (Beryl) Farley of Franklin, North Carolina; along with many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Donald and Robert; and sisters, Geraldine (Fisher), and Dorothy (Arter). In accordance with Joan's wishes, services will be private.
