Joan Emilie Fisher, 88, of Worthington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2020. Joan was born on January 24, 1932 in New Orleans, LA to the late Atal and Josephine (Lawrence) Barre. Joan was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Robert Fisher; two sisters and one brother.
Joan was born and raised in New Orleans. She met the love of her life Bob on a blind date at the age of 17 and would later get married in 1953. Together, Joan and Bob were happily married until his passing in 2007. Joan was a homemaker and took great pride in raising her six children.
She cared tremendously about her family and this love brought her from New Orleans to Illinois to be near Bob's family and later to Nashville, Cincinnati, and finally residing in Columbus. Joan was a devout Catholic and attended Saint Michaels in Worthington and Saint Anthonys in Columbus.
Joan took great pride in her volunteer work. She was a Docent and gave tours at the Ohio Historical Society, volunteered at the Dahlberg Learning Center preschool, and she gave tours at the AmeriFlora '92 at Franklin Park Conservatory. In her later years, she worked part-time for Kroger. Joan was an avid gardener and had a beautiful garden consisting of Poppies, Virginia Blue Bells, and Roses to name a few. She took great pride in giving her children some of her flowers and plants that she grew in her own garden.
In her free time, Joan enjoyed doing Genealogy research. She went as far back as the 1600's and this was all done before the day of computers and technology. She would write letters to her extended family and later on her grandchildren as they got older. She loved to journal about her life and trips.
She was an avid cook. Some of her most famous dishes that she has passed on to her children are her Jambalaya recipe, her famous cinnamon rolls, and her homemade spaghetti sauce recipe. During the holidays, she was an avid baker and baked dozens of homemade cookies that she would give to her family to take home.
Above everything, Joan loved her husband Bob, her six children, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She traveled extensively with her family and spent her summers watching her grandchildren and taking them camping.
Joan is survived by her children, Linda (Jim) Hardy; Dave (Lorna) Fisher; Carolyn Morris; Greg (Toni) Fisher; Marie Roberts; Patti (Michael) Reid; 14 grandchildren: Joshua, Erin, Nathan, Tara, Matthew, Ashlee, Kelsey, Taylor, Cameron, Mason, Jacob, Camryn, Dylan, Kayla; and 14 great-grandchildren.
