

Joan was born on February 3, 1941 in Cleveland Ohio to the late Clayton and Emily (Amey) Vaughan. She died Friday December 7, 2012. She was 71
Joan is survived by her husband Larry Rittenhouse whom she married on July 1, 1995; daughters Lee Ann (Loren) Wurster of Pickerington and Pam (Scott) Blaine of Powell, grandchildren Samantha and Emily Wurster, Brody, Kaylee, and Jack Blaine. Her brother Clayton (Donna) Vaughan of Cincinnati, nephew Danny (Elise) Vaughan and niece Susanna (John) Burton and their daughters Emily and Taylor; Cousin Jackie (Mark) Minich and her cat Lilly.
Joan was a member of the Circleville HS Class of ’59 and received her BS of Education from Ohio University, taught Elementary Phys Ed in Newark Schools for 35 years. She was a member of the Licking County Retired Teachers Association, Harbor Hills Women’s Club, Licking County and Buckeye Lake Historical Societies, A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild. She loved to read, and was a member of several book clubs, a blood donor for the American Red Cross, cross stitch, quilt, golf, and attend her grandchildren’s sporting events and recitals. She and Larry would follow the OSU Buckeyes to their bowl games when they could.
Friends may call on Friday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 12:00 PM to the time of service at the First United Methodist Church, 88 North 5th St., Newark.
