Joan (Karshner) Warner died on October 15, 2022. She was born on February 9, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Rolla and Corabelle Karshner. Joan graduated from Columbus South High School in the January class of 1947. She married Joseph Donald (“Lefty”) Warner on December 22, 1950, and they were married until Lefty’s unexpected death in February, 2009. Joan was a devoted wife and mother of two children.
Joan worked in the real estate field for 45 years; 15 years as a Sales Person, and 30 years as a Broker (Joan Warner Realtor). She loved interacting with, and assisting her clients, and obtained a high level of job satisfaction. Joan also spoke frequently and fondly about her eight years as an Administrative Assistant for The Columbus Board of Education, a job she obtained while in high school.
Joan was introduced to the Lutheran Church as a young adult. She attended church on a regular basis. She served on church council at Reformation Lutheran Church. Her most recent church was Old Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Columbus. She especially loved singing the old traditional church hymns.
While Joan’s family and friends grieve her loss, she will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor, including her distinct, genuine, and contagious laugh. Other admirable personal qualities include her: positive energy, kindness, loyalty, trustworthiness, enthusiasm, empathy, companionship, and in general, being a stellar human being.
Joan deeply loved her four grandchildren, and her two great grandchildren, and would seize the opportunity to see them whenever the opportunity arose.
Although definitely not vain, Joan took pride in her appearance. She never dressed like an “old lady”.
Joan was passionate about water aerobics and participated at least three to four times per week up until the last two and a half to three years. The socialization component of the water aerobics was huge for Joan. Well into her 70s, Joan could be seen walking her three mile route, carrying and listening to one of Lefty’s multiple AM transistor radios. She loved sitting on her breezeway admiring her Russian Sage, and in the distance watching the white trails from the jet airplanes. Joan enjoyed a competitive game of Euchre and was a member of a Euchre Club for several years. She was a loyal fan of Lefty’s senior softball games, which included some travel around the country for tournaments. Joan was a supporter of the local arts and especially enjoyed attending a performance of the Jazz Arts Group of Columbus , with Lefty. She could frequently be seen and heard approaching her destination in her 2001 Mercedes Benz “jamming” to Eric Clapton or the Rolling Stones. In the year 2000, Joan traveled to Germany with her daughter and granddaughter; a trip she found quite memorable. Joan enjoyed cooking and could make a “serious” pot of chili, and did so relatively frequently. She could also “knock out” some awesome lasagna.
Joan is predeceased by her parents, Corabelle and Rolla Karshner, and her husband, Joseph Donald Warner. She is survived by daughter, Donna (Richard) Aldridge, son, David Warner; Grandchildren, Zachary (Amanda) Aldridge, Nicholas (Carolynn) Aldridge, Laramie Aldridge (Zackary), Derek (Peighton) Johnson; great grandchildren, Freya and Oliver; beloved dogs, Fritz (“Fritty”), and Dude.
