Wim(Johannes Wilhelmus) Fourie, 66, of New Albany, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on January 13th, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He had fought a lengthy hard battle with cancer and passed away peacefully in the presence of his wife, youngest daughter, son, and daughter-in-law.
He was born to parents Christo Gerhard Fourie (deceased) and Hester "Twinkle" Germina Fourie (91), in Gauteng, South Africa. Wim graduated from Menlo Park High School with honors and received a bachelor's degree from UNISA (University of South Africa) in Pretoria. He excelled in various sports during his high school career. Notably, making it on the varsity teams for swimming, tennis, and cricket. In his senior year he was selected for Northern Transvaal Under 21 Cricket and played for one of the local clubs. In his profession, Wim was an accomplished IT professional with a successful career that spanned 40 years. Serving a 3-year stint in the South African Defense Force, Air Force Division, helped open this path and spawned the interest into his IT Network career that grew beyond his wildest imagination.
He was happily married to his 2nd wife Elsabe Fourie (he lost his 1st wife, Anneli, in a car accident) for 27 years, who survives him. Wim is also survived by his 2 daughters, Natasha Jadamski (Oldest) and Mignonne Morosky (youngest) with husband Jeff, and his only son Wian Fourie (middle) with wife Kristin. His pride and joy were his 3 grandchildren, Nicola Jadamski, Aliya Fourie, and Roman Morosky.
Wim was known for his passion for sports (Golf, Tennis, Cricket, Rugby, Table Tennis, Squash, Swimming, Billiards and Snooker to name a few), card & board games (Bridge & Trivial Pursuit), watching game shows (Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune), collecting wines from all over the world, listening to music (classic rock, classical instrumental), social get-togethers (such as braai-ing or barbeque-ing with family & friends), and window shopping for cars online as well as in person. He was very much an individual that wanted to go experience notable sports events that he enjoyed, along with visiting God's great wonders in nature. Some of the more notable events he was able to experience in person in his lifetime included meeting up with South-African friends in London to watch the 2015 Rugby World Cup Semi-final match between South Africa and New Zealand. He took his son to a Cricket One Day International match at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, when Australia toured South Africa in 1994. Wim volunteered as a crowd golf marshal at the New Albany Country Club for the LPGA Wendy's Championship for Children. In 2004 a colleague took him to experience the Indianapolis 500. Wim also loved sharing his passion and admiration for God's great wonder with his children. He delighted in taking them sightseeing on several road trips and wildlife game watching vacations.
Wim, husband, father, brother, son, and friend to many, will be dearly missed by all his beloved family and friends. Come help honor, remember, and celebrate his legacy with loved ones at 1:00pm on Sunday Feb 6th at Quest Vineyard Church (4877 Central College Rd, Westerville, OH 43081)
