Jed grew up with his family in New York and New Jersey but the place he loved best as a boy was his Grandfather Rodger's farm in Frankfort, Indiana. Jed and his brother Bill and sister Lisa would go to Indiana every summer for several weeks. They, along with their cousins Janie, Susan, Beverly, Barbara, and Julia would explore the barn, the corn crib, and sit on Grandad's lap while he drove the tractor. At the end of the summer the whole family would gather at the farm to have a big picnic for Jed's birthday.
Jed lived in Columbus with his family. He loved Ohio State sports, especially football and lacrosse. He was a long-time football season ticket holder. He enjoyed attending Upper Arlington water polo games and could be heard yelling "Shoot!" from the stands. He loved to laugh, and he loved comedy on television and movies.
Jed was at peace at Bass Lake in Pentwater, MI. He loved to walk the beach and search for Petosky Stones. At night, he loved to roast marsh mellows and set off fireworks with Ellen and his sons. He also loved traveling to the mountains, majesty of Utah and Montana. He was planning another trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons with his wife.
Jed will be greatly missed by his wife; Ellen; sons, Thomas (Sarah) and Geoff Dickhaut; much loved canine daughter Laila, beloved pets Rex, Simmon, and Annie; parents, Richard and Mary Ann Dickhaut; brother William Dickhaut (Laura); sister Lisa Kenter (Richard); nephews Adam Kenter (Tatum), Eric Kenter (Kelsey), Matt Dickhaut, and Bennett Melville; nieces Jessie Miller (Jesse), Megan Attridge (Steve), Jennifer Dickhaut, Anna Melville, and Avery Melville; cousins Jane Telander, Susan Robey, Barbara Johnson, Andrew Mosier, Elizabeth Mosier-Mills, Paul Mosier, Beverly Holloway, and Julia Cunningham Holloway.
