

John F. Dix, the president of BDI-LTD, Inc. died on December 14, from complications following an automobile accident the previous week. He was 80 years old. He was known for his commitment to his faith, his family, and his many friends. He was not only a devoted grandfather but loved all little children as well. In his later years he loved traveling as much as he loved his weekly outings with his golf group. He began his marketing career with 14 years at Armour Dial primarily in product management, then served another 17 years at Borden, Inc. predominately in senior management positions. For 21 years he also served in the marketing department of the Fisher College of business MBA program at The Ohio State University, teaching a course on strategic marketing and product planning. He was selected as the outstanding elective professor in the Graduate School of Business. In 1995 he was granted the coveted Pace Setter Award for exceptional achievement in the classroom. He was also the co-director of the Center for Operational Excellence and on was on the advisory council for the Center for International Business Education and Research. Mr. Dix was a member of the emeritus board of Trustees of Recreation Unlimited, an emeritus member and past president of the board of governors of the Hannah Neil Center for Children. He was a member of the board of the World of Children, and most recently was appointed to the operating board of the Cradle Society, an Evanston, Ill., and adoption agency. He graduated from John Carroll University in 1963 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. While at John Carroll he served as the president of Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity. At the 50th anniversary of the John Carroll University School of Business, John was recognized as one of the "Fifty Finest of the First Fifty Years." John was born in Chicago, Il. He was preceded in death by his parents John F. and Marion (Winkels) Dix as well as sisters Sr. Elizabeth Dix, Ann Zeller, and Catherine Dix. In addition to his wife of 57 years, Paula Dix (McNicholas), daughter Megan Sloat, son John Kelly Dix, and three granddaughers, Ella, Catherine, and Madeline Sloat, he leaves sisters Marion Howley of Denver, Patricia and Thomas Brewer of Springfield, MO, Jean Hill of Bartlett, Ill., and brother Joseph Dix (Mary Jane) Evanston, IL. Calling hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, December 17 at SCHOEDINGER DUBLIN, 5980 Perimeter Dr, Dublin, OH 43017. The funeral service will take place 12 p.m. Saturday, December 18 at Our Lady of Victory Church, 1559 Roxbury Rd, Columbus, 43212, where family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. until time of service.
