

John Murray Emery aged 90, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Friendship Village of Dublin. Born in Cleveland, OH on November 12, 1920, a graduate of Western Reserve University and Harvard Business School. Lt. JG John Emery served in the US Navy during WWII as a Supply Officer on the destroyer Lyman K. Swenson. He started his career as a CPA and auditor for Arthur Andersen. He then worked for 32 years at Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Company, retiring as Chief Financial Officer in 1983. John’s passion was golf and family. He was a member of the OSU Golf Course and President of the Indian River Golf Course where he managed the expansion of the course and clubhouse and played many great rounds of golf. He spent the summers of his retirement with family at his home on Burt Lake, MI. He was a member of numerous organizations including Upper Arlington Rotary Club and First Community Church. He volunteered regularly and helped many friends throughout his life. He was deeply loved and is fondly remembered for his hard work, integrity, big heart, and endless generosity. He was preceded in death by parents; Fred and Eleanor Emery and son, Jackie. Survived by Barbara, his wife of 68 years; children, Jean (Gary) Phillips, Kathy (Andrew) Steinman, Chris (Renie), David (Kaoru); 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brothers Dave (Jean) and Fred (Dorisjane); several nieces and nephews. A family memorial gathering was held Saturday evening to celebrate his life. There will be no public service or visitation.
