John C. Hicks, Jr. was known to many as a fiercely talented lineman. But he was also so much more. John was just as proud, or even more so, of his off-the-field accomplishments. He was a great father, loving husband, and a wonderful "Papa" to his grandchildren. He welcomed family and strangers alike with open arms and a big hug. He had the unique ability to make everyone feel comfortable and accepted. In the tradition of Woody Hayes, John dedicated his life to "paying it forward". He was passionate about helping the community. He had a huge heart and was committed to leaving the world a better place than he found it. You always knew when John was around. His presence will be immeasurably missed by his wife, Cindy A. (Bredbeck) Hicks; his children Alyssa (Brandon) Murfield, Alayna (Donald Prim) Hicks, Amarah (Damion) Dawes and Brandon Hicks; his grandchildren Willa and Evan Murfield, Tatum Hicks and Sydney Dawes; brother Michael Hicks; sister Jacqueline Harris; sister-in-law Lauren (John) Zaworski; and his previous wife Tereseta Hicks. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Charity (Pitts) Hicks, Sr. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Dr. Manuel Tzagournis, Dr. James Ryan, The Ohio State University Medical Center, and the caring staff at the Ross Heart Hospital. John's family will receive friends from 4-8pm Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North High Street. A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 4pm at the Fawcett Event Center, 2400 Olentangy River Rd, Columbus. Contributions in John's memory may be made to either the Friends of John Hay, 2075 Stokes Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44106; or the Unverferth House, 190 King Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43201.
