A light has extinguished on this earth and traveled on to do great works. John Edward Hrabcak, 78, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1937 and passed away on July 8, 2015, surrounded by his five children. John was the son of the late Anna and John Hrabcak and brother to the late Ann Perun, born in Gilovich, Czechloslovakia. He is preceded in death by the great love of his life, Audrey Elaine, to whom John was a devoted husband for 57 years. John met Audrey in high school, and, after a school social and dance, it was love ever after. He is survived by his daughter, Donna, sons Greg, Scott, Mark and Mike; daughter-in-laws Donna, Lisa, Mallory and Heidi; and his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Laine, Jared, Rachel, Adam, Christopher, Katelyn and Alexis. John loved nothing more than being with his family and friends.
John graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh in 1959 with a degree in business and accounting. He began his career at The Kroger Company in Pittsburgh, eventually relocating to Westerville/Columbus. In addition, he founded Group One Realty, a commercial real estate brokerage, where his sons Greg and Scott later joined him until he retired. John took great pride in managing the family business and working alongside his sons. He was known well in the Central Ohio area for his work.
John was a gregarious, kind, and loyal friend to all who knew him. He was both a gentleman and gentle man. He and Audrey loved the communities of LivMoor East End, Westerville, and The Kroger Company, where they made lifelong friends and colleagues whom the family thanks for their love and support. In addition, John will be greatly missed by the Siesta Breakers Community of Florida, The Villas of Maple Creek in Westerville, and The York Golf Club of Worthington, Ohio.
John was passionate about life, people, friends, real estate, and golf. He enjoyed golfing with his sons and friends, and some of his best days were spent at The York Golf Club in Worthington, Ohio and Misty Creek Golf Club in Sarasota, Florida. He also took great pleasure in long walks with family and friends on Siesta Key Beach, Florida.
John was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Westerville, Ohio and St. Thomas More of Sarasota, Florida. He was a man of great faith who taught his children the importance of hard work, respect for others, and consummate professionalism, as well as the value of family, friends and community.
A beautiful light has extinguished, but we take comfort that John is now eternally in the loving arms of his beloved wife, Audrey. The Hrabcak family thanks all of those who have provided their love and support in the loss of both Hrabcak parents, including the staff and residents of The Village of Westerville and Heartland Hospice.
