Born on August 10, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, John lived a life filled with compassion, curiosity, and joy. His deep love for animals guided him to a rewarding 30-year career as a zookeeper at the Columbus Zoo. Outside of work, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life—gardening, fishing, and especially caring for birds. He had a special passion for raising and breeding exotic species, particularly Macaws, Cockatoos, and Parrots. His home was often filled with their vibrant colors and cheerful sounds. John also had a playful side and shared a love of tradition and creativity with his beloved partner and husband, Steve. Together, they made it a yearly tradition to dress up and attend the Renaissance Festival, a cherished event that brought them great joy and lasting memories.
John will be remembered for his kind heart, his quiet strength, and the warmth he brought to all who knew him. Survived by his husband, Steve Wilson; son, Tim (Laura) Ritz; grandchildren, Joseph and Jodi; many other relatives and friends. Per John’s wishes, he will be cremated and no service will be held at this time.
