
John “Duke” P. Stapleton, age 79, passed away January 19, 2010. He was born in Manhattan, NY on October, 10, 1930 to Joseph and Anna Stapleton. Upon graduation from high school, Duke was appointed to the New York City Dept. of Sanitation. After 20 years of service, he retired as a District Superintendant and moved to Columbus, OH. There he had a diversified career. He sold magazines, had a lawn care service, and finally owned a title company, Metro Title Agency. After 25 years, he sold his company and retired again. Duke belonged to American Legion Sanitation Post 1110, past Commander American Legion Post 479 in Reynoldsburg, past Commander V.F.W. Post 9473, AmVets Post 312 in Florida, F.O.E. 3261, and American Legion Post 490. Duke is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas and Joseph Stapleton; and sisters, Dorothy Condon and Mary Renz. He is survived by a loving wife, Joan; children, John Stapleton Jr., Keith Stapleton, and Loretta Sanchez Stapleton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 3-6 pm on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. A Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, January 22, 2010 at the funeral home. Please do not send flowers.
