Joseph T. Carmichael, Jr., age 85, of Reynoldsburg, OH, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Joseph T. Sr. and Caroline (Sevoy) Carmichael. Joseph retired as Executive Director of State of Ohio Department of Civil Rights following 6 years of service. Previously, he served as Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Services and Department of Administrative Services totaling over 30 years. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Beverly Blake Carmichael in 2009 and brother-in-law, Norman Blake. He is survived by friends, Rudy Carter and Alicia Campbell and deacon board members, Art Ridley, Jim Garner, Larry Farrow and Gurnett “Cappy” Ferguson as well as many other friends. Joe was a 20 year deacon, past choir member and active member of First Baptist Church of Columbus. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Funeral Service will be held 1:00 pm Monday, June 5, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Columbus, 1185 Noe-Bixby Rd. where friends may call from 11:00 am -1:00 pm Monday. Dr. Paul Large officiating.
