

Joseph Willard Holcomb, age 88, died peacefully on January 4, at The Bickford Worthington Assisted Living Center following a short illness. Joe was born on January 5, 1930, in Roanoke, VA. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech and a member of the Corp of Cadets. He graduated the Corp as a Distinguished Military Graduate and with a BS in Economics and later with a MS in Business Administration. Joseph served in the United States Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant (1952-54) and later taught Economics at Virginia Tech before relocating to Central Ohio in 1960. Joe then started his long career at Battelle Memorial Institute as a contracts negotiator and later as a government contract specialist.
Joe married Laura Lee Burnett on Dec, 26, 1951 in Roanoke, VA and they lived in Blacksburg, VA, and then Columbus, Ohio until 1963, when they settled in Worthington, Ohio. They have mostly resided there ever since. Joe enjoyed doing activities with his family, playing golf with his friends, gardening, taking long drives with Laura Lee and buying cars. Joseph is preceded in death by his wife Laura Lee Burnett Holcomb, parents Joseph Willard Holcomb and Margaret Bourne Holcomb, his sister Jean Abbott, and his nephew George K. Abbott.
He is survived by his sons David B Holcomb and Gordon R Holcomb; grandchildren Nathan, Leighann and Bo Holcomb, and Amberley and Ariana Rosen, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 3:00-4:00 on January 6, at WORTHINGTON METHODIST CHURCH, 600 High St, Worthington, OH 43085. The Service will begin at 4:00 with fellowship and a light meal served at the church to follow.
