

Joseph Kitzmiller, MD, PhD, FCP, passed away at his home unexpectedly on October 3, 2018. Joe was born on October 10, 1975 in Columbus to Paul and Natalie (Patapow) Kitzmiller, who survive him along with his wife Regina (Penhorwood) Kitzmiller and their children Jonah David and Juliet Noel; siblings Julie Ann Williamson, Kelly (Edward) Hanawalt, Kerry (Charlie) Sutherland, and Korry (John) Sobolewski; nieces and nephews Lindsay (Louis) Beltrone, Johnny Kelleher, Elise (Bobby) Kirk, Nicholas Kelleher, Zachary (Amanda) Sutherland, Chase Sutherland, and Heidi (Reuben) Auck; great nephews Laken and Lane, as well as numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents Joseph and Millie Kitzmiller and his brother Jeff Fetterolf.
Joe graduated from Gahanna Lincoln, and The Ohio State University, where he was employed as a NIH Translational Scholar in Pharmacogenomics, an Assistant Professor in the College of Medicine, Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology, the College of Engineering, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He was also an Associate Director at the OSUMC Center for Pharmacogenomics, an Expert Educator at the College of Medicine, as well as Director of OSU Fellowship Training Program in Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacogenomics.
Outside of work Joe enjoyed running and adventure races, having participated in a half iron man, and bicycling, especially with his fat tire bicycle. He enjoyed taking Jonah and Jules to the park and to Creekside to feed the ducks. He also loved vacationing with his family, including hiking in the Red Rocks in Utah. He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns, and of course, The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 8, 2018 from 4-7PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, where a memorial service will take place Tuesday at 11AM. Private inurnment will take place at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Regina Kitzmiller, in care of the funeral home, to establish college funds for Juliet and Jonah.
