

Judith Lappin Coleman, age 84, of Powell, OH and Glen Lake, MI passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 26, 2011 in Traverse City, MI. Judy was born in Canton, Ohio on June 17, 1927; she was the daughter of the late Harold and Josephine Lappin. She was loved and raised by both her mother and grandmother, Nell Hise. Judy was a 1944 graduate of Lehman High School, Canton, OH and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in 1949 from Ohio Wesleyan University. There she was active in Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority where she still held ties in their Alumnae Association. While at Ohio Wesleyan University she met Carl “Dick” Coleman, who she married in 1950 and had just celebrated 61 years of devoted and loving marriage. Judy is survived by her love, Carl R. “Dick” Coleman, M.D.; children, Carl David (Marilyn) Coleman and Anne Marie (Michael) Coleman Rivard; 4 grandchildren, Stuart Michael Rivard, Carl Richard Coleman II, Benjamin Carl Rivard and Daniel Cody Coleman; brother, Jared Rhodes (Lynda) Kies; nephews, niece and cousins; and many treasured friends. Judy was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally Jo Coleman in 1973. She stayed very active serving as President of Medical Students Wives Club of Northwestern University, President of Resident Wives Club of OSU College of Medicine. She was a longtime member of All Saints Lutheran Church and First Community Church, member of Columbus Medical Auxiliary, Canterbury Club, Friends of Harding, Starling Ohio Wives Club and the Ohio Wesleyan University Alumni Club. Her most favorite place was Glen Lake, MI, where she was a natural expert water skier and shared her love of the sport by teaching others how to have fun at water skiing. Judy will be remembered for her outgoing personality, her beautiful smile and her devotion to her family. Visitation for Judy will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 10am at First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Boulevard, Columbus, Ohio 43212, Reverend James A. Long officiating.
