

A homegoing service for Julia Bell (Anderson) Spivey, age 89, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 383 Washington Street, Newark, with Rev Dr. Michael A. Noble, Sr. officiating. Burial will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Julia went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, with her family by her side. She was born March 11, 1924 in Sardis, Alabama to the late Daisy and Julia (Willoughby) Anderson.
Julia grew up in Alabama where she married the love of her life, Robert Lee Spivey, in 1942. They moved to Newark in 1956. Julia was an active member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she served in the nurse’s corps and was Sunday School treasurer. Her favorite pastime was following her grandchildren in their sports, band and school actives. She was considered Mom and Grandma to many children in the community and always had an encouraging word for them. Her hobbies were sewing, gardening and cooking. She was known for the best tea cakes.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory a sister, Mary Stone of Desoto TX; six sons, Henry (Lillian) Spivey, Willie (Marian) Spivey and Kenneth (Ethel) Spivey all of Newark, Russell (Dr. Michele) Spivey of Bowie, MD, Lester Spivey and Robert Spivey, both of Reynoldsburg; three daughters, Juanita Lewis and Rosa Spivey of Newark, and Janis (Rev. John) Benissan of Brownstown, MI; twenty-six grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Zelinda Spivey and Kris Spivey; son-in-law, Nathaniel Lewis; sisters-in-law, May Anderson and Nez Anderson; brothers-in-law, Frank Spivey and Alonzo Stewart; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins; special son and daughter, Dan and Lois Spangler; and caregiver, Terri Haung.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Spivey; a son, William “Bill” Spivey; brothers, Clemmons Walker, Louis Walker, Willie Walker, George Walker, Morris Walker, Robert Anderson, John Anderson, James Anderson and Dave Anderson; and a sister, Mary Dubose.
