"HiHo" Gennifer and Michael! Your mother and I became close friends when we met at the Studio Theatre in Painesville, Ohio in 1963, dancing our hearts away.......and we carried our friendship into our first adventure together away from home as we traveled to Fullerton, California where we attended junior college and shared an apartment. Our main meals were French toast and "Whimpie" toasted sandwiches, she claimed the bedroom while I slept on the sofa, and we washed our clothes in the bathtub, but we survived life away from home amid the palm trees, Disneyland, long walks, teaching dancing, and classes. "HiHo" was our California greeting that we shared in every birthday, Christmas and email note for the last 50 years. Your mother was always ready for fun......which included riding in the back seat of my car on my honeymoon in early 1969! She had kidney surgery and wasn't able to drive home from the wedding, so why not enjoy the honeymoon ride with us? She didn't think twice! She was not timid when she crashed my 45th Harvey High School class reunion in 2010 at Hellriegels Inn in Painesville either! Like I said.......she was always ready for excitement in her life! She was a "Mentor" graduate crashing a "Harvey" reunion! I will always remember her "fun" side, but your mom's first love was her family as even in high school her dream was to be a loving wife and mother and I am so happy she was able to fulfill her dreams. "Grandmother" was another added bonus to her life which she truly loved. Kathy was quick to laugh, care, love, give from her heart and had a zest for life that was unmatchable. Kathy was my best, growing up, neighborhood friend.  I had forgotten how much fun we had until I found my old diary from the summer of 1962.  Kathy was on almost every page. I emailed Kathy and Glat (another best friend) everyday last summer, writing what we had done 51 years ago on that day.   On Kathy's birthday we built a big, clothesline tent in her backyard.  Then a group of us went to the stock car races and stopped for ice cream on the way home.  When we got back to the tent we all sprayed our hair with colored hairspray.  After staying up all night, talking about boys, we walked to Kenny Kings at 7:00 in the morning and ordered donuts.  

Kathy was a wonderful friend to have as a child - kind and thoughtful, lots of fun, with just the right amount of mischief.  After growing up and moving away we always stayed in touch, writing notes at Christmas and exchanging birthday cards,  

I will miss her.  I will miss hearing about her life, her kids and grandgirls, and of course the Rantz family.  I will miss all of you.

Katherine was my husband's aunt and although I did not see her often or know her well, it only took talking with her once to know what a kind and giving person she was. I had a chance to correspond with her some these past few months. She sent me a note to let us know she was thinking of us. She took the time to reach out to others in spite of all she was dealing with physically.  I'm sorry for your great loss, Gennifer, Michael and family.

Gennifer and Michael,
As I got to know your mother more and more over these past 20 years, I also admired her more and more.  What a friend she was to my wife and even to me, too. 
Throughout all of my wife's many surgeries she was always at our home or the hospital with her nursing skills, caring, time, food, and even helping with the yard work. Her advice to me regarding her favored hydrangias will never be forgotten.
our last Christmas luncheon with her and her friend Jack was a memorable time for us. We were so happy.
I am so glad I was able to do some household tasks and automotive work for her over these past years and give her something back even in such a small way.
Some people are like angels. They leave a hint of heaven wherever they have been. I think of your mother as one of those people.
I will miss her and I will pray for you and your family as you find your way towards peacewith all those wonderful memories you have and share.

I have such fond memories of Kathy from childhood as my best friend Barb's gentle big sister, when I was a kid and adopted myself into the Rantz family. : ) Kathy was a much beloved sitter for years at our home down the street for me and my 4 siblings, too. Things were good when she was with us. 

Kathy always shared such thoughtful kindness and was such a sweet person; I will always remember her this way. She's gone too soon. I know how much her family will miss her. She leaves an indelible mark of love. Sending my heartfelt sympathies to Barb, her entire family and many loved ones.

  Your mom- my Aunt Kathy- was such an amazing woman! There's just simply not enough words to even begin to describe her or the abundance of memories I have of her. One thing that I will always think of though, is her smile- and how, within seconds, she could light up an entire room with sheer amounts of sunshine and sparkle, happiness and and warmth! Dear Genni and Mike,
Your mom and I met in 1979 as nurses at Riverside Hospital.  I was pregnant with my Mike then.  We would meet for lunch and talk on the phone frequently.
We stayed friends all these years.  After we were both divorced, we went out frequently, seems like we spent a lot of time dancing at Sylvia's.  
I remember times on the boat, going to CA together to visit you Mike, when you were in the service.  Our first night there, we saw Mike and friends and went to some little bar where there were lots of servicemen, Mike was appalled when he saw us and asked us why we didn't wear some "old granny gowns".  You were so lucky to have such a young mother.
After I moved to CA, we saw each other whenever I was home and continued to email and talk on the phone.  
You guys and her granddaughters were the light of her life.  She simply beamed when talking about you. Kathy sent me a picture of the girls and herself all dressed as nurses.  
I loved the times we had as the "posse" with Dave, Linda, Theresa, and Mark.  She was such a gracious hostess.
I will miss so much her great smile and her laughter.  She had such a sense of adventure and I was amazed by all her energy.  She was a wonderful nurse and a fantastic friend.
I am so sorry for the loss of this truly amazing woman.

Dear Gennifer, Michael, and Family,
I have had the greatest honor of knowing Katherine for over 22 years.  I actually met her at Dr. Barker's office when my back went out, as she was his nurse!  She was so attentive and caring, like she has always been, ever since I have known her.  But, I must say, that Katherine was the "hub" for all her friends, and family.  She absolutely loved life, and always wanted everyone to have a good time.  I know how she adored her family and granddaughters.  She loved creating a wonderful weekend for them whenever they visited.  She loved going out to meet her friends, enjoyed dancing to her hearts content, while listening to all kinds of music.  Her free-spirited attitude always made an impact on you.  I will miss our wonderful talks, as we considered ourselves "soul-sisters."  I thoroughly enjoyed our fun times at her house watching those old-fashioned black and white movies.  We would sit for hours watching TV, eating popcorn, having a glass of wine, and then discussing the movie when it was over!   We had so much in common, and she would always play "devils-advocate," when I had a concern or problem.  She was always there for me, and I know for all of her friends.  I have so many fond memories of our times together, and when she would create an outing, or event for many of her friends to attend.  I still can't believe that she is gone, but I know that she fought hard to live her life to the best of her ability.  Katherine was a real "Gem," a dear friend, and one that will be missed forever!  I miss you K, and loved every minute of my time with you!  Oh, and your last email to me on Wednesday morning . . . you told me to have a great visit with my granddaughter, Sophie over this weekend, and I did Katherine . . . I pulled out all the stops!  Thanks for being you!

Mount Carmel Hospice had the honor of having Katherine as a Hospice nurse since 2007.  She was a dedicated and gentle, caring  spirit.  She worked on weekends and at night when many of the rest of the staff were home,  but her value to the team and the patients in our care was high.   She worked as recently as last weekend,  and her death was quite a surprise to our team,   but we know her work was important to her,  and it was important for her to be a "nurse" in her final days.   Thanks,  Katherine,  for your care these past 8 years.

Hello Friends and Family of Katherine,  I met Katherine in 2004 at a Senior Fair in Columbus, OH.  She was dressed in her white lab coat and selling EcoQuest Air Purifiers.  She and I hit it off right away.  She was so friendly and caring.  So of course, I purchased a purifier.  I retired teaching in May and June 1st I was Katherine’s down line and selling purifiers.  She held meetings with her down line near Plain City.  Katherine educated us and made it fun. She was proud of her "new" office in the basement.  We took pictures.  Your Mom and I were more than business partners, we were good friends.  We would get together and talk, and share.  I loved to hear your Mom laugh.  We had some things in common including grandchildren and our love of gardening.  Katherine shared about having Brie come to the house every weekend and being out in her “woods” and the fun they had.  Her love of gardening went beyond her well manicured gardens to helping her neighbor.  She loved getting in the dirt and watching her plants grow and bloom.  We had a number of dinners at The Windchimes in Dublin.  Katherine shared that she and her Mom ate there on numerous occasions.  We cried together at the passing of her parents.  I had always figured Katherine would be here for me when my Mom will pass.  She was a rock to be counted on and a blessing to all.  Katherine gifted me a small memento that spells out FRIENDS.  There is a heart dotting the eye and two girls one on each side.  My way of having your Mom, sister, friend live on is to not take friendships for granted.  To stay in touch with those we care about.   I loved your Mom and will miss Katherine, my friend.

Here is a funny one. When i was a child i loved to be in the kitchen when my mom would cook. So i would ask to help,she told me to put the ketchup and mustard on the table, she turned around cooking so i poured the ketchup and mustard all over the table. I did what she asked me to do.

My Dear Dear Katherine. My best friend for 37 years. Oh how I will miss you, your spirit, and your beauty. I will never forget the wonderful and funny times in nursing school. I will never forget that "world's worst nurse" skit with you in that cowboy hat and gun. Katherine, you were the best nurse I ever knew in every way. You have touched so many lives in that so important area of your life. My grief is overwhelming and my heart goes out to Gennifer and Michael and the rest of your family. I pray Our Lord will find in His way to give them comfort. As you travel this part of your life's journey, I bid you goodbye. Katherine, you will live forever in my heart.

It was great fun finding Kathy again at our 45th high school reunion and learning that we still only lived a few miles apart.  We were, once again, able to share many fun times together and I will miss her.  My deepest condolences to her cherished family.

I am so sorry to learn about your mother's death. As you recall, we go way back to nursing school days when you two were quite young and she was "Kathy". Your parents doubled dated with us on our first date (years ago)and she was our matron of honor as well. 
One of the funniest  memories I have was when she was making homemade eggnog for a New Year's Eve party and caught her bathrobe sash in the mixer and white mixture flew everywhere. Even then she could laugh.
She always cared about others and had a ready smile and listening ear. She will be sadly missed.

I fondly remember Katherine's kind spirit and our many conversations about how to care for others in a way that mattered to them.  Katherine had one of the loveliest speaking voices I've ever heard.  She is remembered and missed by the Mount Carmel Hospice and Palliative Care Team as one of our own and as an RN who was always open to learning.  God Bless you Katherine as you are carried on Eagle's Wings to your home.

My condolences to Katherine's Family. I had the pleasure of working with Katherine for many years. We were "seasoned" nurses and worked the same way! I will truly miss her. My prayers for comfort for those she left behind.
