Katherine R. Harris of Columbus, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on June 13, 2017. She was born on July 10, 1929 to the Late Samuel R. and Katherine R. Hendricks. She was the fourth of ten children. On September 25, 1947 she married the late and handsome Charles W. Harris. To this union came four children, Sharon Lee Harris, Jacalyn Mills, Wendy (Benny) Bray and Delorse Wilmer.
Mom was a fun loving person and she loved her family very much. Mom would say, I don't need a lot of friends, I have my brothers and sisters. Mom was a very compassionate person and had a heart for the underdog. Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, if someone was in need there was always room at our house and at our dinner table. While growing up, mom and dad would play games in the backyard with us and our friends like badminton, volleyball, dodge ball and Simon says. In those days we traveled several times a year to Michigan to see mom's brother Pete and sister Jean, and to Pennsylvania to see her sister Betty. We had the best of times.
In 1969 mom gave her heart to the Lord and became a faithful member of Wayne Avenue Church of God until her illness with Dementia. In 2014, mom's loving daughter Wendy and husband Benny Bray moved mom to an Assisted Living Care in Appleton, Wisconsin to look after her. In the three years mom lived in Wisconsin, her Wayne Avenue church family never missed an opportunity to send cards, flowers, cookies etc. or to call and see about her. We are grateful for the many family members that came to visit mom and let her know she was loved.
Mom was preceded in death by sisters Lillian Carter Bowman, Betty (Herbert) Mosely and brothers Frederick "Pete" Hendricks and William "Billy" Hendricks. This memorial is to celebrate mom's life and not to mourn without hope. It's a time of rejoicing, knowing that she has passed the baton and we must continue to run the race as she cheers for her sisters Charlene Hairston, Delorse "Jean" (Wade) Hooks, Charlsa (David) Melvin and brother Robert "Bobby" (Ruth) Hendricks. She leaves grandchildren, Leroy Bray, Jacalyn Bray, Benny Ross (Lecreatia) Bray, Charles Wilmer and Katherine Wilmer. Two great grandchildren, Beilyn and Javaughn Bray. Mom had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and two dear friends, Jesse Wigfall and Vivian Holmes.
