Kathleen Jane Sumner

Kathleen Jane (Kit) Sumner, age 84, passed away, in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. She was one of triplets born in Los Angeles, California on September 27, 1936 of the late Myles Edward Andrews and Wilhelmina Andrews (née Misch), the first successful cesarean birth of triplets on record. She was raised in Los Angeles, Connecticut, and Minnesota, then attended Stephen's College to study English Literature. While working as a doctor's assistant in Los Angeles, she met Dr. Ian Campbell MacLean. They married on June 25, 1957 and moved to San Francisco, where their two children were born. They subsequently moved to New Haven, Connecticut and then to Columbus, Ohio, where they stayed until they divorced after eighteen years of marriage. After her divorce, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at Centner's Interior Design and as a Research Assistant at the Columbus Museum of Art before finishing her work life as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President in charge of research and graduate studies at Ohio State University. Meanwhile, she had met William M. Sumner, a Professor of Archaeology at Ohio State University. She and "Bill" as he was known, married and moved to Chicago in 1989, where Bill served as the Director of the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. When Bill retired in 1996, they moved back to Columbus where they finished their days. She was very fond of poetry and politics, flowers (particularly roses) and Near Eastern Archaeology. She is predeceased by her sister, Janna Connely, and is survived by her two children, Douglas (Jamie) MacLean, Megan (Savady) Yem; stepchildren, William (Kris) Sumner, Jane Sumner; her (identical) sister, Sheela Boeck; grandchildren, Eirian Yem, Dylan (Amélie) Yem, Shane Yem, Devon Yem, Lachlan MacLean, Emma MacLean. At Kit's request, there will not be a funeral, memorial service, or any other ceremonies, but her ashes will be interned at Union Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. Family has entrusted SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST with arrangements.
