
Kenneth and his family subsequently moved to Columbus, Ohio. He was a 1943 graduate of Grandview Heights High School. He served in the Navy during World War II and in the Army Medical Corps during the Korean War.
In 1946 Kenneth received an undergraduate degree from Denison University. He attended Western Reserve Medical School in Cleveland, Ohio. After two years he left there to dedicate his career to teaching. He earned a B.S. in Education from Ohio State University and later earned a master’s degree in Science from the University of Michigan.
Kenneth taught biology and general science for 32 years in the public schools of Flint, Michigan and Birmingham, Michigan. He was appointed his school’s science department chairperson for the last 12 years of his teaching career. He received a National Science Foundation grant for science courses at Indiana University in astronomy, meteorology, and geology.
He was preceded in death by his parents Howard S. Chard and Anne P. Chard and sisters Florence Julia Walker and Phyllis Ann Chard Johnson. His sister Jean Chard Brandt survives him. Kenneth’s kind and positive nature made him a popular uncle among his eleven nephews and nieces and many grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
Kenneth retired to Sarasota, Florida in 1997, where he enjoyed the warm weather and swam daily at the local YMCA. He was an active member of Southside Christian Church in Sarasota. Kenneth enjoyed reading, dining out with friends, and staying in touch with his extended family. A cruise was his idea of the perfect vacation, and he was always busy planning the next one.
