I really loved Dr. Nagode.   He would show up faithfully in the Endocrinology folder on VIN and help us understand calcium metabolism.     He has forgotten more about calcium metabolism than I'll ever know, but I learned so much from him.     I'm so glad that his wise words live on in our database.    He was a born teacher, and was dedicated to having others understand what he understood.   I met him once, at a consultants' retreat, and am so glad to have met him.     Thank you to his family for sharing him with us.

I never met Dr. Nagode in person, but am one of the many veterinarians on VIN that has learned so much from his research. What an amazing person! He was so generous with his time and would always visit posts I had made to discuss mechanisms of action and benefits of specific therapies. He helped me as well as countless families and their kitties. 

This is a tragic loss for all, the veterinary community as well as his friends and family. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children and grandchildren, sisters and brothers and all who knew this extraordinary man. May all the wonderful posts and memories carry you through this most difficult time.

Dr. Nagode was one of my favorite professors at OSU veterinary school back in the early 80s. He was enormously intelligent, and was a renowned researcher, yet he acted like a "normal guy." To a young veterinary student, he seemed like a God, and it was remarkable to me that he was so personable and caring. 
I saw him a few years ago at a veterinary conference, and he actually remembered me from all those years ago. 
He was truly a gift to our profession and to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

As a former student of Dr. Nagode I learned so much. At the time in school I didn't realize his impact on my career, but it was huge for sure. His teachings and knowledge will be kept going for years to come.. RIP

I am just one of the many veterinarians that Dr. Nagode touched through his work with VIN.  His patient instruction and never ending advocacy for our patients has made him one of the most memorable veterinary specialists I have interacted with.  Even when I knew I was asking questions he had likely answered hundreds or even thousands of times his responses were thorough and supportive.  His research has resulted in so much benefit for our patients, including my own cat.  Even my clients know of him as I often will talk about the "calcitriol guru" and his recommendations when recommending treatment plans for their kitties.  He will be greatly missed but through his work and instruction his memory will stay with all of us.

I was so sorry to hear of Larry's passing. He had been a blessing to the veterinary and pet owner community as well as his family. I was lucky enough to gain much information about Calcitriol from him so that I could pass it on to Veterinarians and pet owners. He would refer this community to me for compounding Calcitriol in "Larry's" way. I remember how enthusiastic he has been about his newest Calcitriol study and how the benefits of Calcitriol would go beyond cats and dogs to help humans as well.

I worked for Dr. Nagode at OSU as a vet student many years ago.  He was someone who was so dedicated to teaching and to his work in renal secondary hyperparathyroidism.  He is part of the reason I became an internist, and I always enjoyed running into him at meetings or on campus after he retired.  I suspect he had a larger impact on the veterinary world than he or anyone really understood. We were blessed to have you.

Dr. Nagode helped me with my dog Acorn's CRF. Even though it was a cat forum, he answered my questions and I know I had an extra 2 years with my dog thanks to his help with calcitriol and phosphorus dosing.

He helped so many people and pets. What a great leagacy to leave!

I am so thankful for Dr. Nagode's work and caring. My 15 year old cat, Lilac has stayed in 2nd stage kidney disease 4 1/2 years due to calcitriol. I have read his posts on the crf yahoo group.

I am saddened to learn the world has lost such a great man who has helped so many in their struggle to help their pets.  Thanks to Dr. Nagode, many beloved pets have had their lives extended with more quality of life, and we have had more years of joy with them. Dr. Nagode's research, and brilliant work  will live on and continue to help in the years ahead.  I am grateful for kind advice during my struggle with my Misty, a 15 y.o. kitty whose Phosporous was dangerously high.  He has helped so many in the various feline  groups I belong to.
We are all grateful for Dr. Nagode's contributions to this world. Such a sad loss.  My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of the one and only Dr. Nagode. He helped me and my kitties with Calcitriol many times, for many years. He was never too busy and always answered my e-mails. I so appreciated his kindness and the knowledge he so willingly shared.

Dr. Nagode saved thousands of animals with his in depth knowledge of Calcitriol. 

Though I did not meet Dr. Nagode in person, I was blessed to have met him through the on-line animal groups, where we all knew Dr. Nagode would help us.

Even if I am halfway across the globe (in Manila) and have not met Dr Nagode personally, I am very saddened to read about Dr Nagode in the calcitriol group.

Dr Nagode had been very kind and responded to my emails regarding my queries about calcitriol for my Silvano (maltese), which had greatly improved his quality of life. Silvano also left us earlier this year but not because of kidney disease. I have even shared information on ALOH and calcitriol information to our trusted vets here. 

Indeed, it is such a great loss but his legacy lives on. He has touched our lives and will continue to touch others through his researches.

I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Nagode when his daughter Trish moved to Bellpoint. My son Garrett became friends with Jimmy and Cindy Robertson . We were neighbors and the kids went to the same school Buckeye Valley West at that time. Trish and I became friends and started making buckeyes necklaces. One weekend during Ohio State football game Trish invited me over to help her with the necklaces. Mr. Nagode was there helping her too. We started talking about football and what he did for a living at Ohio State University. He told me about his research with animals and he wanted to do a book.When we started talking about his studies I said could you please explain in simple terms? Remember you went to college and I didn't your the professor. We both had a good laugh.  What was nice about the conversation was Mr. Nagode would try to explain it to me where I could understand. We had  fun making those buckeyes necklaces that night didn't finish until 3:00 a.m. That way Trish could have them for game day. He love his family and enjoyed spending time with Cindy and Jimmy. He had a good sense of humor and would help anyone if they needed it. I am glad that we got to know each other well and  he will be truly miss.It was nice to know that he had his 40TH Anniversary. My thought and prayers  are with the family for your loss.

What a blessing Dr. Nagode has been for my Ditto 16 years ago.  He was an active member of my Calcitriol group for over 16 years and helped countless caregivers care for their cats and dogs.  He is very loved, respected and missed.  He was such a loving, caring man and left the world a better place from his acts of kindness helping others.  Miss him already.

I met Dr.Nagode from the CRF feline list he participated on and he was a great help tp me when my Fred was having issues with kidney failure.
