

Leon O. Talbert went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 11, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 27, 1931, in St. Paul, VA, to the late Myrtle Kiser Talbert and Cecil Howard Talbert. A devoted follower of the Hokies, Leon graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s of science degree in civil engineering in 1955. Following graduation, Leon moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he met the love of his life, Lois Johnson in 1956. They were married on September 15, 1957, and blessed with three beautiful daughters, Debra, Rebecca, and Melinda. Leon held the title of Head of Research and Development at the Ohio Department of Transportation until he retired in 1988. Leon and his family were active, lifelong members of Reynoldsburg Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survived by wife, Lois Talbert; daughters, Debra (Albert) Gossman, Rebecca (Dennis) Hammond, and Melinda (Lee) Conkel; brother, Rexford Talbert; and grandchildren, Alyson Gossman, Lara Gossman, Luke Gossman, Rachel (Korey) Law, Mark Hammond, Jonathan Hammond, Meredith Conkel, Grant Conkel, Morgan Conkel, and Drew Conkel. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at the SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at Reynoldsburg Baptist Church, 887 Rosehill Road, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
