Leonard Joseph Capoziello

Capoziello, Leonard Joseph, age 93, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on Oct. 30, 2023 at his residence. He was born on July 16, 1930 in Lisbon, Ohio. Mr. Capoziello was the owner of Cappie’s Five & Ten Cents Stores in the Ohio State University area and Whitehall, Ohio during the 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s. He served as Merchandise Consultant for the Super Val Independent Drug Store chain in Columbus, Ohio and Sale Representative for Windmill Natural Vitamin Company in Chicago, Illinois. Leonard graduated from Aquinas College High School, class of 1949 and attended John Carroll University from 1949-1950 before being drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. Leonard attended Officer Candidate Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, former charter member of the Kiwanis Ohio State University Club, member of VFW and American Legion, Life member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Combat Infantryman’s Association and Member of the “The Magis Society Of John Carroll University”. Leonard was founder and former commander of Combat Infantryman’s Association, Columbus Headquarters Company. His most prized possession was the “Combat Infantryman Badge” which is the United States Army’s most prestigious and coveted award for participation in ground combat against an armed enemy of the United States of America. Leonard was the son of the late Daniel V. and Jennie Capoziello. He was preceded in death by wife, Ann, sister Mary Echols, brother Leonard (in Italy) Albert, Ralph and Michael. Many nieces, nephews and friends survive him. Visitation will be held at the Advantage Funeral Home by Schoedinger – Hilltop Chapel, 3030 W Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43204 on Wednesday Nov. 8, 2023 from 4PM to 7PM. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday Nov. 9, 2023 at 10AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 584 W Broad St., Columbus, Ohio with burial to follow in Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio. Military honors will be held at the cemetery.
