Lois Farrand Sensenbrenner, age 89 of Columbus, Ohio passed into The Church Triumphant on Monday, January 24, 2022. Born in Columbus, Ohio on August 18, 1932, cherished daughter of Harvey A. Farrand and Esther Bowman Farrand, beloved and faithful wife for 69 years of Reverend Edward W. Sensenbrenner, treasured mother of Patti Sensenbrenner-Leeke; Doug Sensenbrenner; Judi (Tom Kibbey) Sensenbrenner; Shirli (Bill Aldridge) Sensenbrenner; and Richard (Janet) Sensenbrenner. Grandmother of Jenny (Ryan) Butts and Michael Leeke; Jackie and Laura Sensenbrenner; Elinor Kibbey; Jessie, Eddie, Catie and Louie Aldridge. Great-grandmother of Makayla and Hunter Butts. Lois' brothers William A. Farrand and Albert Farrand preceded her in death.
A 1950 graduate of Columbus West High School, Lois was a lifelong supporter of the Cowboys. Not only was she an Alumni Association Life Member but on October 4, 2002 she and her husband Ed were inducted into the West High Alumni Hall of Fame; the first to receive this honor as a pair! Lois was an avid OSU fan and spent many happy Saturdays rooting the Buckeyes on at home games, traveling to see many Bowl games (including two Rose Bowls), and cheering on many men and women's OSU basketball teams (including attending one Final Four).
After High School, Lois worked as a Secretary for the State of Ohio Tax Department; and as a Secretary to the Dean of the Ohio State University Department of Sociology.
Lois' passion was helping others and she spent thousands of hours volunteering. She shared her faith with hundreds of kids, where for over 40 years, she helped lead retreats, summer camps, work camps, Christmas caroling and more. At Broad St. Presbyterian Church in Columbus and First Presbyterian Church in Troy, Ohio, she taught Sr. High Sunday School; volunteered as a Youth Group Advisor; instructed Jr. High Students and led Synod Activity programs at the Synod of the Covenant Observation School, College of Wooster; spent several weeks each summer as a fun-loving cook, counselor and friend at Broad Acres Camp in Morrow County, Miami Presbytery Sr. High Camps and Kirkmont's 'Kids Kamps', and West Virginia Mountain Work Camps, Coal River Valley. In addition to her youth focus, Lois accepted other callings such as Elder and Clerk of Session in Troy, delegate to the Miami Presbytery, and Presbytery Commissioner to the Synod of the Covenant. She was known for her gracious and lovely hosting of many events for church boards, Sunday school groups, college student gatherings and adult fellowship groups. Lois was also deeply patriotic and deeply committed to both civil rights and her civic duty. She was elected and served five years on the Central Committee of the Miami County Democratic Party, had mayoral appointments to the Troy Civil Service Commission where she served diligently for fourteen years - six as the Chair. A special treat and honor was when she and her husband were selected as Grand Marshals of the Troy Strawberry Festival Parade in 1998.
For all of her civic duties and volunteer activities, the thing Lois will be remembered for was her commitment to social justice, her genuine sense of joy in every part of life and her being the Best Mom Ever. She truly made the world a better place!
A family committal service will be held at Forest Cemetery, Circleville Ohio. When the Pandemic is over, a "Witness to the Resurrection" service will be held to celebrate Lois' life and years of service to the world. This will be held at Hoge Memorial Presbyterian Church, Columbus Ohio, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society LLF-Tri-State, Southern Ohio, P.O.
