She was born in Groveport, Ohio, to Claude and Naomi McGuire. She met her husband-to-be at Groveport High School and later graduated from Grant Hospital School of Nursing. Luan belonged to Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, worshipping Christ for over six decades where she served as editor of the parish newsletter and, more recently, enjoyed working with ESL students as a teacher’s aide.
Grateful for Luan’s life are her sister, Mary Sue Gregg; her in-laws, Lyn Patterson, Clarice Soppe, Carol Greiner, and Paul Zangmeister; and her eighteen nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a family who adored her: her children, Jeff (Nancy) of Columbus, Jim (Jeri) of Charlotte, N.C., Jane (Steve Bruns) of Columbus, and Jill (Drew Wisecup) of Columbus; her ten grandchildren who were her great joy: Jenni (Paul Grady), Dan Zangmeister (Ellen), Jon Zangmeister (Stef), Jessie (Caleb Roberts), Aaron Bruns (Catherine Lo), Amber (Cory Hanlon), Austin Bruns (Ashley), Mark Bruns (Maddie), Mae Bruns, and Tanner Wisecup; and the six great-grandchildren she was delighted to welcome: Paddy Rose, Nora Luan, Nadia Rae, Rhodes, Thomas, and Zoe Lu.
Preceding Luan in death were her parents; her brother, Jim McGuire; her brothers-in-law, Mike Gregg, and Fred Zangmeister; her sister-in-law, Marie Zangmeister; and her wonderful husband of forty-seven years, Mark.
A memorial service will be held at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 2300 Lytham Rd., at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The Reverend Paul Ulring will officiate.
Many thanks to Carol Walton and to the staff at Cotter House Worthington and Capital City Hospice.
